I am currently in country 5 out of 6 which is crazy. This time has gone by so fast and I’m not ready for it to be done yet. But at the same time, I am so excited to see what God has for me next. We got to Kenya in the middle of August and I have loved every second of it so far.
While here in Kenya, we are working with Eden’s Hope which is an organization that was started just under 2 years ago. The founder of the organization is from the U.S but now has permanently moved to Kenya to do God’s kingdom work. The organization does a lot of different things and because of that we have had the opportunity to do a lot.
The first week and a half that we were here they were running their holiday program. So Wednesday-Friday they have kids here from preschool to high school and there are 300+ kids that come to the program. The holiday program is held when the kids are on break from school. It consists of playing with the kids, dancing, teaching them Bible stories, praying with them, doing crafts, and feeding them breakfast and lunch. I got the opportunity to help with the 1st and 2nd grade students. Some of the things I did with them was facilitate some crafts, assist the other teacher with the Bible stories, and just getting to love on them as much as possible.
Another thing we have the opportunity to help with during our time here is Living Hope and Thriving Hope. Living Hope is a program for teen moms that helps them get resources like learning about nutrition, baby items, care for their child and so much more while also discipline them and providing them counseling. Two of my teammates are serving this group through helping with discipleship and teaching devotionals. Thriving Hope is the program for women in the community to come and get disciples and just to have Christian community. Two of my teammates and myself have helped with this program. We are walking through Genesis right now teaching on the chapter for the week, answering questions, and then having fellowship. It has been a really fruitful and fulfilling time for me and I hope that it has also been that for the women.
That is a glimpse into the first two weeks of being in Kenya. There is so much more to come and I can’t wait to share it with you. In the coming weeks we will be doing feedings, school ministry, slum outreach, and so much more. I can’t wait to see God move in these ministries.
Some ways you can be praying for me and my team include:
- Guidance for future plans when we get home
- For present Ed’s in the midst of almost going home
- To see Gods work and presence where we are
